Crown Defence is establishing operations in the United States and Ukraine. The decision marks a significant step in the company’s international growth and reflects sustained demand for cognitive electronic warfare capabilities among armed forces operating across the full electromagnetic spectrum. The company is establishing subsidiaries in both countries, formalising its long-term commitment to each market.
A platform that has earned its position
The ONYKS™ cognitive EW platform has been developed with direct reference to field experience in active conflict environments, and its cognitive architecture reflects lessons learned from operational use.
The ONYKS™ platform detects, classifies, and responds to electromagnetic threats across the full spectrum. It operates across land, maritime, and air domains within a single architecture, fusing RF, acoustic, and optical data to produce a unified threat picture. At its core, the Neural Engine uses machine-learning techniques to classify previously unseen emitters and adapt to evolving threat signatures. The capabilities applied to any given mission are determined by the mission profile. The operator retains command authority at every stage.
An expanded product portfolio
In conjunction with its market expansion, Crown Defence is introducing new additions to the ONYKS™ product portfolio. The expanded range includes ONYKS™ Sense, ONYKS™ Guardian, ONYKS™ Detector, and ONYKS™ Power, alongside the ONYKS™ Edge, the embedded processing layer that delivers full cognitive EW capability without relying on a network. Each component operates passively, producing no active emissions, and functions in GNSS-denied environments.
The portfolio is designed to scale: the same cognitive engine that protects fixed infrastructure is available to a single operator in the field.
Why the United States and Ukraine
The United States is NATO’s largest single market for advanced electronic warfare capabilities. Crown Defence’s establishment of US operations reflects the alignment of ONYKS™ with the requirements of forces that must operate at the tactical edge across the full electromagnetic spectrum, in environments where adversaries adapt faster than static systems can respond.
Ukraine represents a different kind of engagement: direct contact with the most demanding electronic warfare environment in the world today. ONYKS™ has been developed with continuous reference to operational conditions in active conflict. Crown Defence’s presence in Ukraine is a direct expression of that development relationship and of its commitment to the partners shaping the future of cognitive EW.
Establishing operations in the United States and Ukraine puts us directly alongside the partners who are already living the electromagnetic reality we build for. Any cognitive EW capability that proves itself in Ukraine creates European readiness. Jari Mielonen, CEO of Crown Defence.
Recognised as a leading European defence technology company
StartUs Insights named Crown Defence among the 15 Top Defence Companies and Startups to Watch in Europe for 2026, alongside established contractors such as Rheinmetall and Airbus Defence and Space. In May 2026, The Venturist included Crown Defence in its Europe’s Defence 60 database, as part of the post-2022 Nordic defence technology wave. Crown Defence is one of three Finnish companies on the list, alongside ICEYE and Kelluu.
