Drone-related disruptions to European critical infrastructure have become a recurring operational reality in 2026. Airports have closed. Rail traffic has halted. Facilities have locked down. In most cases, security personnel on the ground faced the same problem: they could not determine in real time what was in their airspace, where it was, or whether it posed a threat.


That is the detection problem. Not classification, not intent. Basic situational awareness. Where is it? What is moving? Is anything there at all? Without that foundation, every subsequent decision, whether to call for assistance, clear an area, or stand down, rests on nothing.


ONYKS™ Sonic Sense Pro is Crown Defence's civilian detection capability, announced today and now available to critical infrastructure operators.


Detection without disruption


Sonic Sense Pro addresses a constraint that shapes every deployment decision at an active facility. Any detection system that produces active emissions or interferes with navigation is restricted at airports, ports and energy installations, regardless of its detection performance. Sonic Sense Pro produces zero active emissions. It operates without touching the RF spectrum, without affecting navigation systems and without disrupting the operations it is there to protect.

The system detects and locates threats by listening for drones, vehicles, and personnel. It does not rely on a drone transmitting a signal to function. A drone operating without active communications is as audible as any other.

Coverage without infrastructure


Sonic Sense Pro is configured around the facility, not the other way around. Sites vary in size, permanence and operational complexity. The system adapts accordingly rather than imposing a fixed architecture.


Wireless nodes connect via mesh topology or through a gateway and require no cabling or fixed installation. They can be deployed within minutes and repositioned as coverage needs change. For facilities that require permanent perimeter coverage, hardwired nodes connect via fibre or mains power and support two-way communication, enabling continuous remote updates and configuration changes. Hardwired nodes also support 5G connectivity where available.


RF detection capability can be added to either configuration, extending the system's awareness beyond acoustic signatures where the operational requirement calls for it.


Installation is not limited to fixed positions. Nodes can be mounted on rapid-deployment structures, vehicles or carried by personnel, making the system equally suited to protecting a defined perimeter or supporting a mobile security operation.


Built on tested architecture, configured for civilian operations


Sonic Sense Pro is built on the same architecture as ONYKS™ Sonic Sense, which has been developed and operationally tested in demanding environments, including under conditions of intense electronic jamming. The Pro configuration is designed specifically for civilian facility operations: no power infrastructure required, no specialist installation, and no disruption to existing site operations. The system integrates with standard security management platforms and complements detection assets already in place at the facility.
